To move an icon on the Quick Launch (Mac os x web server)
To move an icon on the Quick Launch toolbar left or right, point to theicon you want to move and drag it left or right. The mouse pointer willturn to an I-beam, like the example at left. When the I-beam is where you wantto place the icon, release the mouse button. To delete an icon from the Quick Launch toolbar, right-click the icon andchoose Delete. Personalizing the Notification AreaAt the right side of the taskbar, you ll see icons for running processes. Aprocess is slightly different from a regular program, in that a process runs inthe background, meaning it has no program window or taskbar button. Examples of programs that run as processes include things such as anti-virussoftware, Windows Messenger, and perhaps others. To see what program any icon in the Notification Area represents, point to theicon and look for the tooltip. If that doesn t help, try double-clicking the iconor right-clicking it to see what other options are available to you. For example, you can often close a program running as a process by right-clicking its icon inthe Notification Area and choosing Close or Exit. By default, Windows XP hides inactive icons to prevent them from hogging upspace on the taskbar. To view the icons currently hidden, just click the < but- ton at the left side of the Notification Area. If you want Windows XP to stop hiding Notification-Area icons, clear theHide Inactive Icons checkbox shown in Figure 24-9. To choose which icons are visible in the Notification Area, right-click the cur- rent time and choose Customize Notifications. In the Customize Notificationsdialog box that opens, you can click on any icon s name; then choose one ofthe following options (shown in Figure 24-13) to decide how to show the icon: .Hide when inactive:This is the normal behavior for Notification-Areaicons, where they re visible only when the process the icon representsis running. .Always hide:Keeps the icon from ever showing, even when theprocess is running. .Always Show:Ensures that the icon is always visible, whether itscorresponding process is running or not. The Restore Defaults button changes all icons in the list to their originaldefault settings, as shipped with Windows XP.
