Using Your Media LibraryThe Media Library button in Media Player s features taskbar takes you to yourcollection of songs. The examples you ll see here are from my own collectionof nearly 5,000 songs. It ll take a while to make your own media collection thatlarge. But you can better appreciate Media Library s value when there are lotsof songs to manage. So I ll use that large collection as an example. Keeping Your Media Library Up-to-DateSongs you copy from CD using Windows Media Player are added to your MediaLibrary automatically. But songs you download from file-sharing networks (likeGnutella) and songs you copy using other means aren t necessarily added toMedia Library by default. To ensure that Media Library contains all the mediacurrently on your hard disk, follow these steps: The first time you use Media Player or Media Library, it may prompt you this automatically. Whether you do that or not, you can perform the fol- lowing procedure at any time to add any songs that seem to be missingfrom your Media Library. 1.If you haven t already done so, open Windows Media Player. 2.Choose Tools.Search for Media Files from Media Player s menu bar. The Add to Media Library . . . dialog box shown in Figure 17-10 opens. Figure 17-10:About to bring Media Library up to date3.Make your selections from the dialog box; then click OK. If you wantto search your entire hard disk for media files, use the selectionsshown in Figure 17-10.4.Wait for the search to complete; then click the Close button. Now when you view your Media Library, as discussed next, it should includeall the media files from your hard disk.
